What Patients Say
Patient Testimonials
“The intake person for this clinic is very nasty. I called to find out what I needed to do to get seen. She was downright ignorant! Talked over me and sounded like someone that was hired off the street with no training. She talked over me, didn't want to hear what I was saying. Told me they see over 150 patients a day and made me feel like I didn't matter. I am in pain. I understand you are busy, but don't treat me like I am just a number. I heard all I need to hear. Looking elsewhere for care.”
— Carol Parker
“No experience. Was referred by a pain doc in Rio Rancho and have severe stenosis (cervical and ?) and will need surgery. But I did get a call from them to schedule me, and asked if they would even bother to get my pain under control so I can stabilize before a surgery and don't die while under. I was told this place does not prescribe controlled substances. This is getting insane. These crazy laws have got to change. People in pain are dying due to lack of access to the pain relief they should have. Just here so you don't waste your time if you need opioids (legal ones) for your pain.”

“This morning I called over to the UNM Pain Clinic to see if they ever got the referral from the pain specialist at Modern Pain and Spine. The receptionist said that they definitely got it but they sent the referral back to Modern Pain and Spine with the idiotic explanation that they would only except a referral from a primary doctor and that I didn't have current imaging of the area in question or the right documentation. So, I called over to Modern Pain and Spine and the very nice guy receptionist confirmed that UNM sent back the referral to them. I got the distinct impression even if I got a referral from an Optum primary doctor that wouldn't be good enough because it wasn't a UNM primary doctor. The receptionist said that several other patients of their's who they also referred to The UNM Pain Clinic had their referrals sent back to them as well with the same idiotic explanation. So I guess even a referral from a pain specialist that is fully qualified but is not affiliated with UNM is not good enough. Plus, I actually tried to get in to see one of their pain specialists around a year or more ago and at that time they would see me but they were scheduling 8 months out. I would never recommend anyone go to The UNM Pain Clinic ever.”

“So I am here at UNM today their check and process is a bunch of bullshit. I'm not happy with how the front desk handles things. they're rude. They mess up a lot. They lie about when they make mistakes. I feel more than 75% of the staff don't know what they're doing. and don't bother asking for management cause they don't know anything rather. UNMH pain clinic is part of the reason why the medical system sucks. and then hearing them talk about their dinner plans and donuts chocolate chips is a bunch of bull they need to worry about getting patience in and out”
