Patient Testimonials

Jared Thomas (as others have noted) is sincerely top-notch! He is friendly, sincere and very helpful. He understands chronic pain and especially that there is no one solution. Also, the medical assistants, & staff are excellent and fun. The front desk reception couldn't be better, ESPECIALLY Denise! It's hard living with chronic pain and patients arent always the easiest to deal with or to listen to (and sometimes, downright, difficult, unreasonable and rude) and yet, Jared, the med assistants and reception still are helpful, patient and kind. I appreciate those at Puget Sound Pain Clinic -Puyallup. Thank you all!

I've been to this clinic twice for a Steroid shot. I have refused pain pills and nerve blockers both times. They ask for a urine sample every time I go and then charge me almost $300 for it. I don't go there for pain pills and have not requested any. I cancelled a Monday appointment by leaving a message on Friday. I was charged for a no show on Monday's appointment. I paid $800 for unnecessary tests and no show appointment that I cancelled. I was supposed to have an updated MRI and two months later the imaging company still has not received the order from the doctor. There is no reason to charge someone for drug testing when they aren't seeking drugs and no established plan or decision had been made yet as I wasn't even evaluated before they asked for the test.

it took my MultiCare PCP, referral to Sound, four months to get my first appointment. The referral team was not that friendly and helpful till they probably was tired of receiving my message. ISSUE #1: incorrect referral from my PCP. Hoping they could help me out with getting in touch with my PCP office and guide them with the referral. None. WORKAROUND: I asked SOUND Referral, if i could just get a hard copy of the referral from my PCP office instead of the office faxing it to them direct, I got a NO, it has to be sent from the Providers office. Mentioned it again, and a different person said, yes, i can drop off a HARD COPY of the Referral to one of the offices, preferred the one I would like to be seen at. WTH! Finally picked up the referral from my PCP office and dropped it off at the Bonneylake office and the person at the front desk was very understanding and immediately started scheduling me for my first visit. She was amazing, she saw whom my referral was for and said, Dr Chen is one of the busiest provider in their practice. And set me up with a partner that he works with Dr Chen; Stephen. Agreed. ISSUE #2: ON the day of my first visit, i got a call that the internet was down and they were able to reschedule me SAME DAY in another location Tukwila with Jason. Jason was great! Very informative and experience, and i was able to schedule my follow-up. I reschedule my Jason appointment with my actual referral Dr Chen in Puyallup, the day after the follow-up appointment i was sopose to have with Jason. And Dr Chen was AMAZING! He alleviated my lower back left side pain instantly after the 10 minutes of stretching / exercising. I've explained i would prefer no PRESCIPTION if possible, and just want to have either a natural process and or options. I have a 3 week follow-up. Dr Chen referred me also to a PT to help me with my exercises and stretches. ISSUE #1: The office never has an actual person that answers the phone. They expect you to leave a message and they will call you back in their convenience. ISSUE #2: They are closed on FRIDAYS, so you have to make sure you leave a message if you need to cancel your MONDAY appointment, which i had to. ISSUE #3: The referral was not very compassionate, they had no way to reach out to the PCP office to try and get my correct referral. They are very NON-Customer service enviornment/department. ISSUE #4: Directions on where to park for their offices is very confusing. Tukwila, i parked in the back and it was difficult to get out. Pullyallup, i was on the opposite side of the entrance, i was following the WAZE and GOOGLE maps, and i took a risk and drove down and found the entrance was along another street, not the street address that was provided. ADDED (recently 11/2025) ISSUE #5: Bonneylake office had internet issues. Just recently, Puyallup office had internet issues and the front desk had to use his own personal HOTSPOT from his mobile to check in and check out people. Unable to take co-pays, but thats okay, i pay online anyways. I will follow Dr. Chen, but the practice on scheduling NEEDS TO BE more friendly and compassionate to the patients needs and well being. Also, Jason is very compassionate as well.

I have been a patient of Dr Chen's for yrs and he is a knowledgeable, compassionate and patient physician who has a better understanding of the nervous system better than any neurologist I've ever seen!! He is skilled in the special nerve testing needed to properly identify nerve conditions. He has made a huge difference in helping me to understand my nerve disease/syndromes from Fibromyalgia and nerve damage caused by diabetes and other chronic problems and given me answers to how I might help fight the awful pain I live in. What I don't like abt Puget Sound Pain Alliance is their Ukranian ran answering system. The people do not understand you, are awkward, and hard to understand. There answers make no sense because they don't understand English!! It's a joke. They run the billing too. So my husband and I have had to go to the offices to get appts and turn in paperwork as well as give messages to the doctor because of the failed communication systems. The Dr Plan app they use doesn't allow you to send messages so it's only good for my doctor reaching out to me. The offices are old, run down and don't feel clean due to their need of a remodel. The staff I've dealt with in Covington, Puyallup, Tukwila and the Tukwila Ambulatory care has been wonderful!! But I only go to Puget Sound Pain Alliance because Dr Chen's now there.
