I have been receiving treatment at S&W for many years. Overall, my impression is quite negative. They are constantly grossly understaffed; when you call in, the automated answering service says to you, "wait times can be as long as 30 minutes" to simply answer your call. Everyone is constantly in a hurry. Getting an appointment with a mid-level takes 3 to 5 weeks. You rarely see a doctor; they just do initial evaluations and procedures. The nursing staff interact with patients as if they are gulag prisoners. I have met a few kind and caring doctors and one mid-level. S&W is in bed with SOS; they are owned by the same company. For that reason, S&W mid-levels are highly motivated to refer to SOS for money-making MRIs.

I showed up for my first appointment, in terrible pain. Unable to sit, had to pace for a long time, before I was called back. Spoke with a very bored nurse who asked the standard questions, like level of pain. Mine was near the top. ( by the way, read the report of my visit that was sent to my primary care doc, " pt. Is in no apparent distress." With a stated pain level near the top, and being barely able to sit still, writhing in pain, I think my distress was apparent. Saw the doc, who recommended a nerve block. Having had them many years ago, with good results, we set it up. A minor glitch at check in at Heritage- the letter stated we were to wait in the car until called. After a while of waiting, I was curious as to whether they knew my number. I called and they said, with a laugh "oh you can come in." Inside we asked about the waiting in the car. They replied that they no longer had to do that, but haven't updated their paperwork that was sent to patients yet! My procedure went well and for a while. I was pretty much pain free, with the exception of foot pain, that had decreased since the block. It started to increase, until it was worse than the original pain. Called the office several times, with no call back. Today I received a letter stating that they tried calling me with no success, suggesting that their number had been blocked by me. Nope. My "recents" on my phone shows all calls, blocked or unblocked alike. And there was no voicemail. This letter was generated from the North Syracuse office, where I had been seen many years ago.I called that number, gave my number AGAIN, but I don't have any faith in a callback. My doctor seemed very friendly and competent but I have serious doubts about the way that this practice is run. I have had to deal with this issue on my own. I am not very happy. I am not a medical professional, so I don't know what to do.

My medical history forms presented to NP Nicole Quilty noted a recent heart attack, congestive heart failure, and Asthma which she discussed with me at length. After my appointment, she sent a prescription to my pharmacy, and my pharmacist informed me the medication was contraindicated for people with cardiac or pulmonary issues and was ill advised as it could cause Afib and depress my respiratory system. I also confirmed the medication is unsafe for patients with my health issues by visiting the manufacturers website. Keep in mind, NP Quilty and I discussed my cardiac and asthma issues prior to her prescribing the medication. I called her employer, NY Spine and Wellness in Camillus, NY for an explanation asking why she would prescribe a potentially harmful medication. I received a call back advising me not take the medication and no further explanation or response was ever received. NP Nicole Quilty has abysmal ratings for good reason. I will never again trust my healthcare to her or any practice which employs her, and I suggest you do the same. Take her reviews seriously and steer clear.
