“This is the same post I made on the Multicare Pain Management in Gig Harbor page. Both of my doctors work at both this and the Gig Harbor location. I have added an update (see below first paragraph). Dr. Lau made such an amazing impression on me. She knew a lot of things many of my doctors didn't - quite a variety of knowledge. She was down to earth, truly listened to me, and she made an intelligent and conservative plan for my care that includes seeing specialists who can help me get to the root of WHY the pain and how to fix the causes of it rather than just treat one of the symptoms. As far as I'm concerned, that is a doctor who's worth her weight in gold. UPDATE: I am now seeing Dr. Murphy. He is great, too! Down to earth, kind, and, frankly, hilarious at times. He makes what could be a very frightening experience much, much easier. It took some trial and error to figure out what I needed, and Dr. Murphy stayed determined to find me a solution. I am treated respectfully and have had actual, adequate pain management for the first time in my life. Since starting the proper regimen for pain, I have had the following outcomes: Sleeping much better! Cleaning isn't painful Happy to do chores Getting along better with husband Able to keep up at work - although my disabilities keep me from working full time, I'm at 3/4 time and feel balanced. Less exhausted More actively involved in hobbies again Motivation increased More time with loved ones (not just holed in) Able to get dressed and ready for work in much less time Able to complete a non-disabled person's ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) Able to handle socializing more I'm in a flare-up right now, after twisting my leg. My balance is poor, and I accidentally misstepped in my own home (where most accidents occur, because I'm too relaxed and not stringently wearing my leg brace). After that, I had a physical therapy appointment where I had to twist my leg into what is a natural position for those without my disabilities, but an unnatural position for me. I went to see Dr. Murphy about a pain medication increase. He was understanding yet firm about staying with the medication level I had before the flare, which means I'm in more pain than usual, but is really probably best; as much as I'd love to be in less pain, it IS a slippery slope once medications are increased. He prescribed Baclofen, a non-addictive muscle relaxer. Between that and just using a cane more often, especially when I first get out of bed and I'm not acclimated to at least some level of pain yet, I've been getting by fairly well, and the flareup is slowly dying down. There's something to be said for continuing to let one's body produce its own pain management chemicals, and also for allowing the temporarily elevated pain to remind me to be more mindful of how I walk. Ugh, this is a lot to manage! But I do trust the doctor's judgement on this. Overall, I'm extremely grateful to the team there at Multicare Pain Management. They've given me my life back.”

“I had to find a new healthcare provider for a patient, and their primary care physician gave me a referral. Before I faxed over any paperwork, I called the office and immediately they said that none of the providers are accepting referrals from outside the MHS system. I asked them, "Are you sure about that?" The website for MultiCare says that Mark Murphy is taking new clients, and they immediately got quiet and said, "Well he takes clients for addiction and pain management." Which is exactly what I needed. Had I not pushed this issue they would've dismissed me and lost a potential patient. This has also happened with Multicare Home Health, they have stated they don't work in my area when I have current patients working with this specific company. Its' unfortunate and I will start to branch out to other providers outside of multicare”
