Patient Testimonials

Had my injection procedure this morning. While I won't know the full effects right away I can tell there is relief. I wanted to share that if anyone is Leary of injections - this doctor and staff were great. They were thorough, listeners and professional. I would have no problem repeating injections down the road ( IF ) needed. Injections > It really sounds worse then it is.

BEWARE of this clinic's billing practices. I got a referral from my primary care physician to visit the pain clinic to explore upper back pain. For a single visit, I received three separate bills totaling $3,086. These included: $251 for an 'office outpatient visit' to see the doctor (note: I saw a physician's assistant, PA, not a doctor) $491 for a 'facilities charge' for entering the pain clinic $130 for trigger point injections by the PA $833 for a 'facilities charge' for use of the room that injections were made in $232 for the medicine used in the injections $1,075 for two x-rays of upper back $74 for interpretation of the x-rays While some of these charges are reasonable, the multiple 'facilities charges' tacked onto the bill by Mount Nittany Medical Center are simply a way to pad the billing and charge more money to patients and/or their insurance companies. The clinic warns you that there 'may be' facilities charges billed separately from provider chargers in the small print when you sign in. But if you pay out-of-pocket or have a high deductible insurance plan, you may find yourself shocked to receive a bill that not only charges you for an outpatient office visit, but that tacks on an additional 75% charge ($1,324) for the building and room that your 'office' visit occurs in. Imagine buying an airline ticket for $500 and then receiving a second bill a week later from the airport charging you an additional $375 for an airport 'facility fee'. If you do a little research online, you'll see that medical facilities charges are a highly controversial practice in which hospital-owned outpatient clinics add charges for use of their buildings and treatment rooms. The US Congress and legislatures in numerous states are working on laws to crack down on these unethical billing practices. Until the time laws are in place to protect you, you should (a) be aware of the billing practices and use providers that don't charge facilities fees when possible; (b) report your charges to your insurance company and potentially appeal; (c) report your experience to the PA Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau to build up the number of consumer complaints required to trigger state or federal action. (Note: Mt. Nittany posted its standard response to my review below, the same they post on every review that mentions a billing problem. But of course I contacted the billing department and got nowhere. The billing department is about as unhelpful as it gets.)

Thank you to Mt Nittany Health for the outstanding care they take for their patients. I have been seeing Dr. Victoria about the pain in my right hip and leg. She takes time to evaluate my condition and then she refers me to Dr. Jennifer Gilbert. Thank you Dr. Gilbert for all your knowledge and care to find the right injections for my condition. She does an amazing job of finding just the perfect spot to give me pain relief. My pain recently went from about 9 to 1. I am so thankful. They even call me the next day to be sure I am feeling ok or if I need anything. Who does the anymore? They are the best! Kathy Greenland

You should definitely make yourself aware that this isn't a pain management clinic, it's a cancer treatment center. When my spine surgeon from Hershey tried to transition my care to here for long-term care and/or suggestions that he may not have thought of yet due to 3 spine surgeries, degenerative disc disorder and arthritis before I hit 40, they told me that they only offer pain management to cancer patients. Please change the name then. They explained that all they would ever provide would be injections, which are not FDA approved (educate yourself unless you want to end up with permanent nerve damage, or worse) and the other injections possible, I already receive from my other physician (trigger point, Botox). My surgeon was irate as I sat in the parking lot to call his office to let them know I wasted 2 months waiting for the appointment for absolutely no resolution and he has been handling my treatment from 3 hours away ever since, without hesitation, so that I don't have to give up a Ph.D. to resort to living on SSI for being unable to work normally. It's a true shame what the medical field has become. Age does not nor should it ever dictate treatment, medical diagnoses do. Pain is subjective, didn't you learn that in nursing school before you became an NP? Regardless, don't waste your time here. Mount Nittany is one of our primary providers in central Pennsylvania and residing in rural areas leaves us with very few options. It's a shame that you can't even maintain a reputable pain management clinic for patients who need it instead of having to travel 3 hours for basic care.
