“I was sent to Dr Melissa Murphy for a consultation regarding intracept. After my husband and I waited for over an hour Dr Murphy looks at my information and says she can see I drove quite a distance for my consultation. She then tells me my insurance BCBS at the time did not cover the procedure. She asked me to fill out paperwork to give them permission to start the process of approval which may take awhile and that she would have me come back later to actually discuss the procedure if I get approved. She then proceeded to stand up as if appointment is over. I said wait. As you stated I came a long way for this consultation for which you have told me absolutely nothing about the procedure. I asked so since my insurance currently doesn't cover it you dont want to proceed with the consultation I actually came for? She then says well its very expensive. I responded I didn't come all this way for you to tell me it's expensive. More importantly why would I fill out paperwork for something you can't be bothered to explain to me what it is or why it would benefit me. Like you said I came a long way for this consultation so I will not reschedule it so how about we get started. She then gets even more of an attitude than she had coming in asking what do I need to know. I said how about explaining what is intracept and why you think it would benefit me. After explaining she says again how expensive it is. This entire interaction was extremely insulting and unprofessional but my pain management doctor who recommended her said I should try it since I spent over 10 years in pain trying multiple procedures that didn't help. Only took less than 2 weeks for insurance approval. I thought this would mean coming in to walk me through what to expect during procedure and after. Nope I had to request a zoom call to have my questions answered prior to procedure. After performing it she said no need for me to follow up. I only received survey emails asking me about my pain level. Well after over a year intracept didn't work for me so ended up doing a fusion as my last resort.”
