“I was super excited to visit Dr. Shokat, as he came highly regarded by family members and friends. I was tremendously disappointed in my one and only experience with him. If you're unfortunate enough to be in your youth and have chronic pain, stay away. Pain management clinics and being young don't coexist very well, because most practitioners, like Dr. Shokat, assume that you're there seeking a certain drug because there are other patients that actually do go to pain management for that reason. I'm used to that sort of treatment, but this was a bit too much. On my first visit, instead of being treated like a human being, I felt like I was being interrogated. I explained what medication I had been on for years, the dosage, and frequency. I was then told I was "too young" to be on that drug, and he was trying to catch me in a lie that didn't exist regarding my use of the medication. I understand not just handing out prescriptions that other providers previously issued, but when I agreed to try other options two or three times in our conversation, he insisted that I was there because I wanted the drug I had been on in the past, and that was all I was going to settle for. Needless to say, I didn't return for my follow up appointment. Luckily, I a few months later, I am on a drug that doesn't require going to a pain management specialist, and don't have to tolerate blatant disrespect from physicians like this anymore. All practices have their drawbacks, but this one by far has the most. Choose wisely.”
