Patient Testimonials

I know that when I go see Dr. Yaacoub I am in good hands. He has a good bedside manner, he has true concern about the patient. The staff is equally welcoming and helpful with any needs or prior questions they could answer. I am very pleased with my treatment and care from the whole staff.

Everyone was nice, just disorganized. I left there feeling confident that I found someone was going to help me.....then the chaos began. Phone call telling me to get an xray on my left knee to get approved for those gel shots in the knee for osteoarthritis. My left knee had a knee replacement, its my right knee I need the shots in. So this went on for 5 weeks if not 6. Then once this is straightened out, they never ordered the shots. So they canceled all the appointments I had scheduled and that screwed up my work schedule. And if you ever need a returning appointment the will let you know 3 days a head of time what time you appointment is. Also the person who was checking me out in the end was eating a bowl of noodles and wasnt even on my chart when she started talking about the nextvstep. I said, wrong chart, thats not me. I know they must be short staff, but everything that pertained to me was a mistake on their part. Very sad, I heard the Dr was good, but man, noone had it right with me

I have nothing but horrible things to say about this place. Terrible customer service, terrible doctors, and the worst communication at an office yet. I just transferred here from my regular pain management office down in Des Plaines. The reason why I needed a transfer is because Des Plaines is over an hour drive for me, and with the Illinois roads, it makes the drive very uncomfortable, painful, and unbearable. This new pain management place is only a 10 minute drive from me. So I thought I would give it a try. This place is so bad that it is making my old pain management look like Disneyland. Mind you, my old pain management never answers their phones, and they are very difficult to get a hold of. The first visit with The Illinois Pain & Spine Institute, they already wanted to throw me onto the table and perform procedures on me. I was told that I need to do two sets of facet blocks in order to do my back ablations, which isn't true. I've had back ablations before. I played their game and scheduled two procedures that would leave me bed bound a week at a time per procedure. I needed to go under anesthesia for these procedures, and both of those times, I had a horrific experience. The first time, when they put me under, they had me in and out of the office within 15 minutes. I didn't wake up from anesthesia until I was in the parking lot getting loaded into my vehicle! I'm sure you can imagine how scary that is. I should have been in a recovery room while I awoke and came to. I told Dr.Hagel about my experience, and he said that he will definitely have an anesthesiologist in there the next time I get my facet blocks. I had also asked for calming medicine BEFORE I go into the operating room due to PTSD. However, they did not give me anything until I was already strapped onto the table in the operating room. Who gave me anesthesia the first time? It was a nurse who took some night classes and got a certificate saying that she could give anesthesia. She got the dosing wrong, obviously. My second time in there getting the same procedure with the facet block, they told me that they didn't have an anesthesiologist and that a nurse would be administering my anesthesia again. I was explicitly told that there would be an anesthesiologist in there to give me the correct dosing this time, and yet, there wasn't. I was awake during the whole procedure, and I felt everything! Then, to top it off, they put me in a recovery room, and a male nurse came in there and tried to take my shirt off. I told him to leave so that I could dress myself. I had a follow-up appointment that I scheduled myself because apparently, they don't schedule post-op appointments so that I may discuss what my experience was. I also wanted to schedule my back ablations. While on the phone, Dr. Hagel said that I was a "pain in the ass" and that I am lucky that I haven't gotten the boot yet because most people would have by now. I then began to tell him why I needed a real anesthesiologist for these procedures and about my PTSD and he seemed shocked and may have felt bad now knowing the reason why I am the way I am . I have woken up during procedures before, and I am a victim of other traumas I do not wish to air out. Regardless, they did not take the proper care or consideration that this kind of practice should have. To top the cherry, I had a telehealth appointment with Steve on Friday, and my pharmacy was out of my medication. I called the office to get it transferred to another pharmacy, and they never got Steve to rewrite my script for another pharmacy. Now, I am sitting without my medication for 3 days. I called their after hours line to speak to someone on-call, and their phone system hung up on me. I have to wait until Monday, and I hope they are able to rewrite me my script. My body is going through withdrawals, and this could have been avoided if they had just called my prescription over to a new pharmacy like they were supposed to. Steve said it only takes 3 minutes, not 4 days! Avoid this place at all costs!

Dr. Yaacoub is a great doctor in my opinion. I've only seen him twice so far, but look forward to establishing a rapport with him. My first visit with him went very well. He was thorough and addressed all of my pain issues that I've been suffering with for a long time. Finally a doctor who listens!! He's great!
