“I was very encouraged after my initial meeting with Dr. Lopez, after following his suggestions and getting some testing done, we had our follow up and he decided what treatments would be needed for my pain management. My insurance denied the treatment but stated that they just had a few questions that could be cleared up by a peer to peer with the Dr. because the notes were not clear . Dr Lopez policy is that he does not do any peer to peer requests with insurance companies because this is not a good use of his time. I called and confirmed this is his policy with his office manager who ensured me that Dr. Lopez will not answer any clarifying questions that insurance companies ask as he takes pride in his notes. I am lucky to have excellent insurance and never have issues with getting services approved until now when this Dr's policy is that taking the extra time to help his patients is not a good use of his time. I also had to follow up with this office for a month, getting no return calls, etc . They told me that they exhausted all options with my insurance after weeks of telling me it was being worked on only to find out that was not truthful at all and finally being told that if insurance has questions they will not take the time to address the concerns they have even though the office " Fully understands that insurance companies requesting peer to peer reviews is standard practice for insurance companies" and they receive these types of requests on a regular basis. I wish I never wasted so much of my time and money ( MRI's , X Ray and multiple specialist office visits ) with this process. I fully understand that a Dr is not responsible for insurance claims however I cannot fathom that a Dr would have so much pride to say that a patients needs are not a good use of his time considering that this is standard practice in the industry and my insurance company " just had a few questions" that they needed clarity on.”
