“Last May, I had ablation done bilaterally, 3 levels, and I had felt everything as I was very uncomfortable. I was given the option to pay $200 out of pocket for deeper sedation as this is just how my body works because Versed had given me such a bad experience that I was told I was screaming. I don't remember much, due to the IV meds, but I will not forget how uncomfortable I was during this procedure. I felt like the nurses had terrible bedside manners as I was told, "You should know, you're a nurse" twice. I had the anesthesiologist tell me I needed to see a therapist because of my anxiety, as this was highly insulting. I have PTSD from the army and I do manage my personal mental health issues appropriately. The concerns with lower back injections here in the Colorado Springs region is that I've had 4 bad prior experiences and trusted that Dr. Finn would be able to get me comfortable enough through the ablation. I believe this is also added stress built up for another anticipated procedure. The last appointment I was offered to have deeper sedation which helped tremendously but my left nerve bundle branch was hit by the injection site that the pain was so intense that I came in two days later with an appointment to follow up on what happened and next step for pain management. I spoke to another provider, she gave me gabapentin and that was it. For 4 weeks, my left side and nerve damage was so extreme that I couldn't work, there was no follow up phone calls, no post op assistance as I know things can happen, I'm a nurse, but they didn't want to help at all. That would have been a good professional step, but to have the front desk be rude, to the nurses who pre-op'ed me have terrible bedside manners to not ONE call to follow up on the procedure that didn't go as planned, it's been one year and my nerve down my lower back wrapping around my thigh to my knee flares up daily is still an issue. Now I'm on Lyrica for a year, and still no calls. I found Interventional Pain Management to be THE best for injection and pain management care if you need a professional team. Dr. Malinky is fantastic and is Heidi NP. A follow-up call goes a long way. To be treated like a problem from the first appointment is not great practice.”
