Dr. Duane Dixon - Pain Management in Lynchburg, Virginia

“After waiting several months, for an appointment, to this this Physician, finally came my day. After being informed they were experiencing computer difficuties, and waiting an hour, was told the Physician had an appointment and would not be able to see me. Almost two weeks later I arrived for second appointment, was informed I was not on the schedule. Thank goodness I had an appointment card. While waiting I had an opportunity to talk with other patients. They informed me they always wait two to three hours. On occasion five hours. Which was close to the wait I experienced today. Inconsiderate and unprofessional. It always concerns me when a physician does not have another licensed healthcare provider working along with them. This should be an automatic red flag. This Physician expected me to continue to see my current Doctor, while he was ordering tests and procedures, not protocol. How unprofessional to allow a patient to wait hours under false pretences. This Doctor, patient relationship works two ways. My time is just as valuable as his. If this practice was up to high standards, all needed requirements would have been put in place prior to the appointment. I worked as a Nurse for over thirty years, some of which I coordinated clinics. This unorganized and unprofessional practice would never have been acceptable. So if you want to be treated without dignity, this is the Doctor for you.”

“My first visit with Dr.Dixon took over 5 hours. He proceeded to have me come back two weeks later to meet with their physiatrist so he could discuss what ways we could manage my pain. I started seeing Dr Dixon in May. I was coming in every two weeks up until August so he could discuss if meds were working.They do a DNA swab at the first visit that is suppost to tell them which meds work best. I waited almost 2 months before they had my results! It came back I was immuned to all narcotics. He took my pain meds and gave me a prescription for nycinta. My insurance would not cover even with the prior authorization. He had me go 9 days without medication and every time I called they had an excuse why he hasn't looked at my medical chart. They even told me he had car trouble! After the 9 day's he has me come in and proceeds to still have me leave urine for a drug screen knowing he didn't give me any pain meds. He said he wanted to put me on subutex I refused because I did not agree with the DNA test because medications that supposedly did not work in fact worked very effectively. He wrote me prescriptions for a ween down and told me to come back in two weeks. I come back this time he writes me the same prescription's but for way less and tells me that it is to ween myself off. I received a letter in the mail a week later that I was dismissed for over use of opioid's, drug screen didn't come back right, etc. I went to my family doctor and they informed me he sent them a letter of my dismissal and he also said he discussed that with me at my last visit. I am so upset that he did not tell the truth in that I didn't want subutex. Now my PCP will not help because of Dr Dixon. Please don't give him your time which I lost my job because of going there every two weeks and it taking 2 to 5 hours before I would leave. I will be investing this further. He is a money hungry man. He has no concern for your pain.”

“I dont understand the bad reviews. This office is great. The wait time is within reason. The office is clean. There are 20 to 30 patients in and out everyday so things get warn but it is not dirty. The office staff are always genuine, no fakes, they truly seem to enjoy their jobs and are happy to see you. The providers are warm and they truly seem to sympathize with me and what I am going through. They have helped my a lot. I count myself lucky to be a patient here.”

“Unprofessional, and Judgmental : RUN::::::Reviews do not lie.. I know this deals with pain meds but please listen to the reviews..I went there for 6-8 months and never had a problem.. One day my girls cheerleader coach did not show, and only two of the girls showed. Being short I did not have the heart to tell them know and showed them how to do a stunt.. I refused to do all the other stuff as I knew this would be to much.. (Heck what I did do was to much) Two weeks later the inflammation still has not gone out of my body.. Someone took a picture of me trying to help the girls and passed it to him and my very next visit he refused to treat me basically saying i was not in pain.. The cat scan shows two disks that wearing down. .The MRI shows that the titanium metal and bone fusion did not work and the disks are thinning as well. All I did was over do it with my kids and this man called me a liar.. Please check under conditions Cervical Degenerative disease with Bone fusion.. This condition can be painful and hard to control.. Of recent updates on conditions they have found that it can make one unstable.. He never checked the inflammation that was in my body.. Never talked to me about any of the conditions expect for the Arthritis. This is not acceptable, all assets of the contract were met, yet, he dismissed me just like that because I wanted to do something with my girls..I have an 8, 9, and 13 year old and life does not stop for pain. My pain is not controlled, and my legs get very unstable if I walk to far, which are signs of the condition Cervical Degenerative Disease.. Here I am two weeks later and my pain did not ease as he said and neither did the inflammation that I had when I went into the office that day... I don't regret leaving my kids with a memory of myself and them playing together.. I don't regret overdoing by way to much because for once they can remember something more than just me. I do regret ever walking into that doctors door.. Doctor Dixon once said he had a bad back too, and my question to that is 1.Does he play basketball, because if he does he should not be able to claim he has pain. 2. Does he play with his grand kids : If he does he should not be able to claim he has pain.. The day he released me I went to the E>R. and my Blood pressure was elevated, and the swelling bad enough they had to put me on prednisone and meloxicam to control it. He never checked out the damage, and if he had he would have said the same thing my doctor and E.R. said which was " if you do something stupid expect the pain : You know you can't do this stuff with your conditions."" Every other doctor caught what happened except him and the reason why is that he does not care about the patient like a good doctor does.. I wish this place would shut down because we need a real pain care doctor in town.”
