What Patients Say
Patient Testimonials
“Dr Carr came in and immediately started telling me I didn't need medicine or more surgery that all I needed was simulator. I stated that I wasn't comfortable with that treatment. He spent less than 5 minutes with me and then sent in a rep for the stimulator company that works in his office to educate me on the device. No other option was offered and I was told they do not prescribe pain medication even though I didn't ask.”

“My mom is a long time patient of Dr. Deer. She loved him but had trouble with the travel (3hrs) to see him so changed to Morgantown in 2018. Well that was a big mistake. She has a spinal stimulator, pain pump and very complicated history from sarcoma, nerve damage and a hemipelvectomy. Fortunately she went back yesterday to Dr. Deer and was referred to a Neurosurgeon in Durham. I cannot thank him enough for his kind treatment of my parents and his glimmer of hope to find something to help her pain once and for all. AND not only did he offer to speak personally to the neurosurgeon about her case but they already contacted the NC office and NC called to schedule a consult. Blows my mind with gratitude. I could cry. When someone you love is suffering and you feel powerless to find a solution and a doctor listens to their story, has compassion and tries to help find a solution it's a beautiful thing!! Thank you many times over Dr. Deer and his whole office team.”

“Saw Dr. Deer years ago (either Spring 2002 or 2003) when I was in excruciating pain and no one could determine the cause or how to help. I am know for being VERY precise and detail oriented. I had even taken a written copy of when my pain began, type of pain, severity of pain, as well as the limitations that resulted from it (I was already using a cane to walk). I asked if he wanted to keep the copy of my history because I had more copies at home, however, he declined my offer. He did, however, give me an injection which helped me finish the school year but when I went back 6 weeks later he told me there was nothing else he could do to help me. Even when I told him the injection had made the pain at least bearable he refused to give me another one, nor did he refer me to any other specialist. Before I left I requested a copy of my records. When I read the entire report TWICE I called his office and told the receptionist it was urgent that I speak with Dr. Deer. He did return my call later that day and I informed him that I was confused and upset because his report was completely incorrect. I went over point by point what I had told him during initial appointment and that I wanted his report redone to state the actual information I had given him. He bluntly told me that he records every intake interview (and I did recall he had activated a recording device) and that his report reflected what I had told him. I again told him the report was NOT correct and I wanted it redone to state what I had actually told him and informed him that I still had the written statement I had brought with me for the initial appointment and had offered to leave with him. At that time Dr. Deer stated that his report was an official document and could not be changed, nor did he give me a reason why it could not be changed. However, he did say that I was welcome to bring in my written version and it would be stapled to the back of his report. I found Dr. Deer to have a cavalier attitude concerning this discrepancy, as well as no concern about my continued pain as he did not offer to refer me to any other pain management doctor or any other type of specialist, basically leaving me to deal with the pain on my own. I was referred to Dr. Deer by my PCP at the time, however, I am unable to verify or denounce his skill as a pain management specialist because all he did was give my one injection then refused to continue treating me or give me a referral to any other specialist when I returned in six weeks for my follow up appointment. I will add that since Dr. Deer is still a practicing pain management specialist twenty two years after my unfortunate experience with him he must be helping some patients who are suffering from pain.”
