“I requested a platelet enriched plasma (prp) injection in my knee. This is not covered by insurance so I had researched whether it would worth it and based upon that research I emailed Dr Chen to ensure that he used a double centrifuge to achieve a high concentration of platelets and an ultrasound guided injection. Since Pain Care Associates has its only double centrifuge in Salem I was directed to Dr. Chen to do the injection. His assistant ran the centrifuge and I had to request she ensure a high platelet count. Dr Chen arrived about 30 minutes later in a rush. He told me to sit on the bed so that the gap in my knee would be open, he then filled the needle and when I realized he was about to do the injection I asked about the ultrasound and he said he'd looked at it earlier (I had sent him images of the ultrasound which was made for the diagnosis). He then gave me the injection. The ultrasound was sitting across the room. I never saw him hook it up and I didn't see a screen for him to use to direct the shot. He even asked me if the arthritis in the knee was just from wear and tear. If he had read the notes he would have known that I had a meniscus tear in that knee that had been repaired twice. My knee was extremely painful the next day and only a little better for weeks after that. It has been months now and my knee is not as good as it was before the shot. I am very disappointed in the treatment I received--both the failure to do a real ultrasound guided shot and the results.”
