Patient Testimonials

If you want to be treated like you are there for drugs and drugs only see these people. They make you feel like a drug seeker. I would rather take 12 advil and six tylonel a day for pain then to deal with them. April Nodine was rude, no empathy, not caring at all. They don't return phone calls to the patient or pharmacy. I will let anyone and everyone know this is not a warm environment to seek health. They lack all communication, just want insurance money. They act like you are the problem and to stop wasting there time. Horrible experience!!!

I had my first appointment with Dr Wellington at Center for pain management in Carmel earlier this month. My initial spinal injury happened in 1996 when I was 15 years old. After several surgeries that ended up failing, I was successfully treated with opioid pain medication for decades back home in California. Since moving to Indiana in 2020, I have been tossed around from pain management doctor to pain management doctor without any assistance. Some of those doctors actually got angry with me because the spinal injections didn't help me the way that they assumed they would. My body does not respond to ordinary modalities of pain management in the way that most doctors expect. It is quite frustrating that my body has to be so unique that it does not respond to traditional therapies. I'm not going to lie I am a complex pain patient. Through the decades of my journey with chronic pain I have tried and failed many medications, therapies, surgeries, injections, radio frequency nerve ablations, I even had a spinal stimulator implanted for 9 years that malfunctioned. Dr Wellington is the first doctor in the state of Indiana to request my extensive medical records from California. He took his time going over my medical history, what worked what didn't work, and what he felt was the next steps to help get me back to a quality of life worth living. The staff that I encountered during my visit were exceptional. As a chronic pain patient most medical appointments bring on a lot of nerves and anxiety. The trauma that I have endured from being tossed around and denied adequate pain management, also left me feeling very nervous about this appointment. Once I walk through the doors, the entire vibe of the office set me at ease. The nurse who took me back was fantastic. Again, I've only had one appointment so far but I can tell that everyone at Center for pain management cares about their patients. I am not over exaggerating when I say that my life was saved the second I walked through that door. I had a family event over the weekend and for the first time in 4 years I was able to participate instead of being stuck in a chair in the corner watching everybody else have a great time or having to stay at the hotel because of my pain levels. I was able to have a great time because my pain was managed. I'm actually looking forward to my next appointment. I feel validated and something that I haven't felt for a long time which is Hope. I will absolutely recommend Center for pain management and Dr Wellington, to anyone dealing with chronic pain. Thank you for giving me hope, thank you for giving me the ability to rejoin my life again. I'm forever grateful.

TLDR: Awful experience, appointment was with one of the founders & he was dismissive, refused to look at the area, had zero comprehension of pharmacogenomics, and spent more time flirting with the nurse than listening. Not sure where things went wrong in my experience vs the majority of others who rate this a 5 star, but this was hands down one of the worst doctor visits of my life. I went in with high hopes, their website speaks of new methods and research on pain management. I especially liked that they integrate behavioral health with their treatment plans. On top of that, I was told that due to them having so many patients that I would be meeting with the founder of the clinic for my initial appointment. Not often that you hear someone high level getting into the weeds of working with patients. So - high hopes upon entering my visit. I can't remember the name of this doctor, but wow. He flat out refused to even examine the area where my pain was originating from. Instead telling me he had a "general idea". If that isn't alarming enough, he further went on to discuss a vague treatment plan consisting of inserting something in my spine to control my nerves. Imagine going to the dentist for a toothache, they refuse to look at it, and determine you need all your teeth pulled. No way would I trust anything these providers say. If you want to go to the furthest extremes to seek relief, then maybe this is the place for you, but I would rather have faith my doctor has a full picture of what is going on. As the founder of a pain management clinic, I thought he would understood the fundamental basics of pharmacogenomics, especially when the majority of pain medications are metabolized by one specific DNA marker. He looked at me like I was talking another language and went on to state that it wouldn't have anything to do with my response to medicines. Despite it quite literally rendering it impossible for a drug to metabolize into its active metabolite. Mental health professionals as well as pain management professionals should be at the forefront of being able to read and interpret these test results. The entire visit was essentially a huge waste of time. Refusal to examine the area, lack of knowledge, and he spent more time making creepy comments to the nurse who was visibly uncomfortable. The only positive that came out of it was receiving a referral to another doctor who actually took the time to LOOK, listen, and research. Could never in good conscience recommend this place to anyone.
