Carolinas Pain Institute

Carolinas Pain Institute is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of chronic, acute, and cancer pain. We offer the latest advances in pharmacology, physiotherapy, and cognitive and interventional therapy, access to national clinical trials through the Center for Clinical Research, and support and educational resources through our partnership with PainPathways Magazine. Medication alone may not be enough to manage certain kinds of pain. Some medicines are more effective in fighting pain when they are combined with other methods of treatment. In some cases, the patient's pain condition may respond to treatment instead of medication.

Patient Testimonials

Dr Amanda Zimmerman is a great doctor, she listens to me like I am the only patient that she has! She cares about my well being, not just my pain but my life! She asks questions to make sure that I feel safe in my living environment and if I need help with food insecurities!! She is very professional, but very caring at the same time. I highly recommend her especially if you are at an advanced age, like myself!!!

I have had the worst experience in my life dealing with this place. I went in to get help with my health issues willing to do what was asked of me to receive the help that I needed. They asked me to do physical therapy and I asked if they could fill out paperwork for me for my job in order for me to be able to go and keep my job. I was told sure no problem. I was thinking great but boy was I wrong. My first and only visit was in September I called every week several times each week reminding them that the paperwork needed to be sent back it had a deadline. I asked if they would fax the documents they said they didn't have a fax so it had to be picked up. When finally got word back from my job I found out that they didn't allow me enough time off for my situation and I gave them more paperwork to fix that one thing and they went right back to holding on to the paperwork it went past the deadline and when I finally received word from my job this time they left the time allowed away from work blank. Funny thing where they didn't have a fax machine before I found out that they fax the paperwork. Listen if you decide to go ahead and go to this facility in Winston Salem I would hope that you received better care than I did. The doctor was Christopher Gilmore and his nurse Maria. She was very rude he seemed nice but obvious didn't care because at the end of the day I called and left messages never got a call back so this my warning to you go and see someone else.

Would not recommend this place. They did NOT ask for my co-pay when I would check in, which resulted in building a bill that I couldn't pay all together at once, so I wasn't "allowed" to be seen until paid. I've had 7 back surgeries and paralyzed twice. I'm in excruciating pain everyday all day. Office staff up front have bad attitudes all the time. The nurses also have bad attitudes and are very judgmental. The doctors nor PA's did not help me in the time I was there, prescribing medication I've taken before multiple times and told them it didn't help. Suggested a surgery I've been told no by other doctors about many times. When I would send a message through Mychart NONE were answered.
