Fantastic bedside manner! Took the time explaining to me about my problem which is arthritis in my back and knees and what we could do about. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to him!

My Mom is an elderly woman who has every one of her mental faculties. She began seeing Doctor Forzani for back pain. She met with him weekly for nearly six weeks completing an ablation procedure. She completed one side, but before she could begin the other side, she unfortunately was diagnosed with lung cancer. Over the next month with Yale, we had set the date to begin radiation and chemotherapy but the day after Thanksgiving, she was taken by ambulance to the hospital for SEVERE back pain. She remained in the hospital for 10+ days, missing the start of her cancer treatments, and she lost over 20 pounds while she was there. During her stay, incredibly stressed about her back issue now prohibiting her cancer treatments, I called Dr. Forzani and asked if he could order an MRI to figure out what was going on. Something had happened, she was in incredible pain, and she needed to be able to get onto the radiation table and lay flat on the hard surface for the treatment. Despite the fact she was his patient and she had done multiple procedures with him, he refused to order an MRI without an "office visit". I explained she was immobile, in the hospital, risking the ability to complete her cancer treatments at all. It didn't matter. No office visit, no MRI. Unfortunately, my Mom's long hospital stay due to her back injury had weakened her to the point where Yale felt the chemotherapy would be too much. Now it was radiation only, a much less effective treatment plan. On January 22, 2024, I wheeled my mom into Dr. Forzani's office oxygen tank and all for his required "office visit". He prescribed Norco for my mom's pain, no MRI. By mid-March, 2024, my Mom had finished Radiation and was trying to recover. The Norco Dr. Forzani prescribed was making her sick to her stomach and she needed pain relief. The hospital had given her lorazepam which she felt helped her pain. Lorazepam is an anti-anxiety medication. It is also a controlled substance and has narcotic properties that can explain pain relief even though it is technically considered anti-anxiety medication. I would think as a "pain management specialist", Dr. Forzani would know this. So again, I called Dr. Forzani. Even though we had (painfully) met his office visit request less than three months ago (Jan 24), he insisted on another one. When I complained that we had just been there and she only needed a medication change, his PA came back on the phone and told me he wouldn't prescribe that particular medication for her. I was talking to his PA because, according to her, he does not take phone calls so she would put me on hold, talk to him, then get back on the phone. Twice this was the drill and twice, Dr. Forzani was completely ineffective, unreasonable, and refused to help. For Dr. Forzani, "office visit" fees are his greatest concern even when his patients need him very badly. The only way for me to summarize our experience with Dr. Forzani and the effectiveness of his "treatment", is to say that he should be ashamed of himself.

I initially saw Dr. Forzani in Nov 2023 and he collected an X-ray followed by an MRI. I was happy to follow these steps to figure out why I had so much back pain. He then recommended a lumbar steroid shot to reduce my back pain that was found to be caused by a herniated disc. Unfortunately, Cigna denied the prior authorization (typical Cigna move). I thought Dr. Forzani and staff would submit an appeal to have Cigna cover the necessary injection. I called his office and they assured me that they had already submitted an appeal and they would contact me in a month when the appeal was either accepted or denied. A month had come and gone so I called the office and left a message (4 weeks later I still haven't been called back) and I also called Cigna. Cigna said they never received an appeal! So I waited a month for no reason. I decided to see a new orthopedic doctor, so I obtained a copy of the MRI report and a CD of the MRI. Turns out, the radiologist noticed a cyst on my right kidney (failed to report any specifications such as size, or simple/complex) and Dr. Forzani never mentioned a cyst at all! So I have had a cyst on my kidney for months without knowing. (The cyst is likely nothing to worry about but it would've been nice to know so I could get an ultrasound to confirm.) I looked at the MRI images myself and the cyst was obvious even to someone who has no experience with MRIs. I am now seeing another orthopedic doctor who is more attentive so far. I will never be back to see Dr. Forzani or his radiologist again.
