Patient Testimonials

This place is terrible. First time I had surgery it took an extra 6 months to get help. When my surgery date got moved for my next surgery I left 4 messages before I got a call back !!!! Then NOTHING happened. No medication for the week 2 weeks leading up to surgery!! Absolutely no one in this office cares at all !!! Wish we had better healthcare here !!

Dr Herrera is caring kind compassionate woman who not only listens but truly helps. Her previous QMA, Kristina was amazing an put you at ease as well as made you feel comfortable. Then she left. The QMA who replaced her was not pleasant. I moved to a new state an after seeing the PM in this state I can only imagine what was said about me in "report" because I was suspicious of the wording of many things during the consult.

Horrible place to go for chronic pain. They cut me off of the medication I was doing well on without any taper. I was on 60mg of mme and I had been on the same dose for over a year. I had just had brain surgery a few months prior. When I returned from surgery they said they could no longer prescribe to me since I had tried an illegal drug when I was a teenager. I had just answered that question honestly on a questionnaire they had just given to me that day. I'm 43 yrs old now. Mind you I had been with this clinic for over a year and answered all kinds of questions pertaining to my past prior to this visit. All was ok until the CDC guidelines came out that year. Then they said no, we are sorry we have to cut you off, it is our policy to do so if you have ever tried an illegal drug. I have seen the policy and there is absolutely nothing like that on there and there has not been anything added like that since. I was treated like an addict. Not only that but the new doctor I was given mocked my choice of treatment for my condition. She walked in, threw down what she called my 'very thick file for someone so young and that looked so good', and said 'sooo you chose to be sliced and diced in NYC huh? How's that going?' The neurosurgeon I went to was the best surgeon I could of gone to for my complex issues. I have a chiari malformation which means my brain and my brain stem (with my particular degree of herniation) was being compromised along with EDS a connective tissue disorder that makes surgery for me more difficult. Several chiari patients have died from this kind of compression. The surgeon I chose to travel to did several of these kinds of surgeries a month and the Benefis surgeons I went to in my town did maybe 2-3 a year. They told me the surgery would not help me. This was outdated information based on older diagnostics for chiari. I knew I'd have to find someone to help me. I was being looked at and treated as if I exaggerated my need for treatment. The Benefis Pain Doctor said 'well I guess if you look hard enough someone will eventually do the surgery you want, some just care about the money.' I was floored. After surgery my severe central sleep apnea was gone. Proof the surgery helped correct what could of been life threatening. Proof the Benefis Pain Management Dr that mocked me had no idea what she was talking about. Proof that my research and patience and praying and hoping and being able to come up with all the money to finally get the help I needed in NYC had paid off! It took a few years but I made it. Not only did I have to deal with all of this but the doctor before her that I had at this same pain clinic didn't even know what kind of chiari I had! At our last visit before my surgery he said good luck with your Budd Chiari! I said what? Oh wait.. no.. and then I said never mind and walked off knowing he was leaving the clinic and I wouldn't see him again anyway so why explain now. As it dawned on me that he didn't know my true diagnosis for over a year, I was pretty mind blown. But at least he was kind to me and treated my pain. It scared me that not only one but two physicians in the same facility could be so ignorant to my conditions. I still have pain because the surgery is not a cure all but it did help to rid me of the anxiety I had knowing I could of died from this malformation without surgery. I have other conditions as well but she didn't even care to ask about those. This last experience with Benefis pain clinic I had was the one that made me lose faith in what was going to be my hope of living a close to pain free life. This happened to me over two years ago and I still have anxiety over doctor visits now and I now have to settle for how my life is going to be from now on. Painful. Since my conditions are also progressive ones, the pain is not going to get better with time but worse. I try to remain positive though. At least for now I have a small amount of pain control from a very wonderful and caring primary care doctor. It could be worse. But it could be a lot better.
