The real answer is not as kind. Money, doctors get a huge kickback per test, as much $3000 per test. Testing is done mainly to protect the doctor, insurance companies and the fake opioid epidemic, mainly fake in regards to prescription medications (The CDC even combined OTC medication to create that highly exaggerated number, which is still way fewer deaths than alcohol and cigarettes). Very few pain patients sell their medication, about .0000001%. Sadly drug testing methods, especially those used by pain doctors have extremely high false positives. Many doctors do not know how to read these tests and will throw out a patient for a false negative too. If one is taking street drugs why does that disqualify them for pain management? Addicts do not have pain? If taking street drugs that means they have access to illicit fentanyl, so why put them in a position to take more dangerous drug (if cut). Prescribed fentanyl is extremely safe, and by itself is almost impossible to overdose from.
