Patient Testimonials

I had a bad experience with a doctor at Baystate Pain Management (BPM). Out of courtesy, which I'm not sure is deserved, I won't call this doctor out by name. My surgeon ordered a pain management procedure and when I went to BPM for a pre-procedure appt., the doctor at BPM did not agree it was the correct procedure. This doctor asks me, "why does your doctor want this?". I'm not a doctor, I can't explain the details of why a surgeon ordered a procedure, other than he thought it was the right thing for my pain, so right away I feel put on the defensive and stuck in the middle. I explained my feelings and requested this BPM doctor consult with my surgeon who ordered the procedure. At this point, the BPM doctor got defensive, condescending, and rude. Some things this BPM doctor said: "Who is this surgeon, I have never heard of him" (and why that is relevant, I don't understand), "I don't talk to doctors outside of Baystate" (really?), "What do you expect me to say to this doctor" (I stated my rationale that the two of them don't agree so they should consult each other - I'm not going to be in the middle). Finally, this BPM doctor said, "If you can produce the surgeon on the phone right now, I'll talk to him". It takes a month to see any doctor in this country, as if I had magical powers to get a surgeon on my phone at any time. This request was simply ridiculous. I said I have the surgeon's office number, I can leave it with you and you can contact him or schedule a time to speak. My offer was not taken by this BPM doctor. Throughout this, it's not only what the BPM doctor said, it was his tone and how he said it. Condescending, rude, incredulous, and unprofessional. I soon came to the conclusion that this BPM doctor had a very bad manner and I didn't want them involved in my care even if they consulted with the surgeon, so I left the appointment and I won't be going back to BPM. I think it would benefit other patients if the Baystate Experience Team respond here and let everyone know the policies of Baystate. (1) Is it an unreasonable request for one of your patients to ask one of your doctors to consult with another doctor about said patient's pain management? (2) Is it a Baystate policy that your doctors are not allowed to consult with other doctors outside of Baystate? Since your doctor stated he "doesn't do this", I'm left to believe it must be the case. Thank you kindly in advance for your response.

THEY R WONDERFUL, STAFF IS AWSOME! DR. MANACONTI IS THE BEST, IVE HAD SHOTS INTO MY SPINE SEVERAL TIMES FOR CHRONIC BACK PAIN AND HE NEVER HAS HURT ME. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO RECIEVED SHOTS IN SPINE ELSEWHERE AND SAID IT WAS AWFUL PAINFUL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS OFFICE OVER ALL OTHERS, I AM A RETIRED NURSE SO I HAVE GREAT UNDERSTANDING OF QUALIFIED PHYSICIANS, THEY MEET THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF MEDICAL PAIN MANAGEMENT CLINICS!
